Hvar is St Tropez as it once was
07 January 2008
The Croatian island of Hvar was recently included in the Sunday Times top 100 summer holidays for 2008 and the Guardian compared it to the glory days of St Tropez.
The Sunday Times described Hvar as "the ritziest resort in the Adriatic" but it is still relatively small and the local hospitality makes it a breath of fresh air compared to the teeming French Riviera.
Whether you want to visit by ferry for the day from your Croatian accommodation, or stay on the island itself, you can expect romance and glamour on this Adriatic paradise.
All summer long (summer starts in May) the bars and restaurants surrounding the beautiful Venetian piazza are lively and the palm-lined quayside leads down to the lovely port.
Further down the quay is the now famous Carpe Diem club is like Ibiza before it became a superclub destination.
Everyone from family groups to backpackers enjoys the party atmosphere of Hvar Town and it is only an hour by hydrofoil from Split.
