Island-hopper touts Croatia's 'delightful' treats
06 March 2008
Croatia travel offers an easy-going, "truly restful" and delightful holiday opportunity, it has been claimed.
Writing for the South African Independent Online, Wayne Allen-White praised Dalmatian coast's many islands, singling out Trogir for its relaxing atmosphere and Hvar for its "good music, good food and good beer".
Relishing his discovery of Croatia's crystal-clear warm waters, medieval cities and friendly inhabitants, the Adriatic enthusiast noted that even capital city Zagreb is permeated by a feeling of openness, "with wide streets, parks and trams for easy transport".
"There is a fascinating medieval section that is well worth a visit, with beautiful churches and houses, and even a statue of St George and the dragon," he remarked.
Wine-growing village Trstenik was lauded for its local produce, including 'grappa' - a wine-based brandy often drunk after meals to aid digestion.
Mr Allen-White informed fellow culture-seekers that Hvar is home to the oldest community theatre in Europe, a Renaissance cathedral and "other interesting historical monuments" before concluding that "everyone" should avail of a vacation in Croatia before its secret is no longer so well-kept.
So-called 'island hoppers' regularly avail of the travel opportunities presented at Split harbour, where buses from different areas converge and ferries leave for different destinations.
