Korcula recommend for sailors
10 July 2008
The virtues of Croatia have been extolled after a visit for the Croatia Yacht Rally in June.
Writing on sail-world.com, Trevor Joyce claims the highlight of the country for sailors is the island of Korcula.
Its ACI marina, set among the cobbled streets and antique masonry just inside the 16th century gate to the town is recommended by Mr Joyce.
Other attractions on Korcula are said to include coffee shops, tiny restaurants, art and jewellery shops.
For sailing, Mr Joyce says Croatia can boast 1,200 islands and 6,500 kilometres of coastline, "countless bays and inlets, deep safe water [and] not much tide".
It was recently claimed by Natalie Holmes in the Independent that Korcula is an ideal place to learn how to sail.
She said Lumbarda is particularly welcoming to the novice sailor as it is easy to sail to nearby islands, giving learners "the impression they can get somewhere on their own".
