Montenegro tourism 'exceeds expectations'
22 January 2008
Business is booming in Montenegro's tourism sector, according to the latest figures.
Statistics published on BalkanInsight.com indicate that the country's holiday industry is generating an increasing amount of capital.
Official data cited by the website verifies that revenues produced within the tourism sector have risen steadily in the past few years in particular.
According to the figures, the amount generated by the industry between 2005 and 2006 alone went up by a fifth.
This was followed by an increase of 39 per cent during the course of the following year.
Montenegro's tourism ministry released a statement in reaction to the news, which noted: "The results are even better than the goals set as part of the economic policy for 2007."
The country's residential properties were revealed to have directly benefited from growth during the last year, as the average stay of a tourist went up from 6.3 days to 6.6.
As a result, officials expect occupancy rates in many rental houses to be higher again this year, leading to increased rental returns for owners.
Montenegro has been lauded in a number of recent reports for its attractively-priced property market.
