New Wizz Air planes 'to serve Croatia'
17 July 2008
New Airbus A320 aircraft are likely to be making their way to Croatia after Wizz Air completed a deal for the planes.
The central and eastern European carrier has placed a follow-on order for V2500 international aero engines (IAE) to power and support a new 50-strong Airbus A320 fleet.
Currently, Wizz Air operates 18 IAE-powered aircraft and already has an order in place for a further 23 UAE A320s.
Josef Varadi, chief operating officer of Wizz Air, said the purchase of the V2500 engines is a reflection of the company's pledge to buy the latest technology cost-efficiently.
He added: "As the most advanced engine available for the A320, the V2500 enables us to benefit from greater fuel efficiency, and therefore lower overall emissions, which are both vital in today's operating environment."
Meanwhile, JAT airways flights between Croatia and Serbia are underway.
The airline is flying from Serbian capital Belgrade to Pula on the Dalmatian coast twice a week throughout the summer season until August 31st, the first scheduled flight service between the two countries since the early 1990s.
