Poker party and school to be held in Zagreb

The First Croatian Poker Club, which was founded a year and a half ago, is to host a Texas Hold 'Em party and poker school in Zagreb, it has been revealed.

According to javno.com, it is easy to sign up to the club online and no fees are paid, contributing to a 700-strong membership.

Competitions are said to be held throughout the country on a regular basis, with the Piranha Club in the capital the latest venue to attract visitors.

Mirsad Keric, one of the founders of the club, told the news provider they were brought together by poker discussion forums, with the decision made to introduce and expand the game to the Croatian public.

He added: "It is our desire to reassure people that poker is not a game for dodgy types, gamblers and mobsters. Texas Hold 'Em is primarily a game that is played for fun and most players in America call this type of poker we promote No Limit Texas Hold 'Em - Cadillac of Poker."

The news provider also recently revealed residents of Zagreb had taken part in a world-record attempt in another game, Monopoly.

Some 80 participants played in the capital, while another 120 took part across Croatia in Osijek, Rijeka and Split.

One of 18 countries taking part, those in Zagreb were convinced they had contributed to breaking the record for simultaneous games, with over 1,000 players predicted to have participated worldwide.
