Travel expert recommends Hvar
28 May 2008
Hvar has been recommended as the "chicest" of Croatias islands by a travel expert.
Michael Martin, the managing editor of JetSetReport.com, told the street.com it is "flush with luxury hotels" and has an appealing nightlife for its visitors.
The island consists of the main town of Hvar and a small harbour which is lined with nautical flags and polished marble streets, prompting Mr Martin to compare it to the St Tropez seafront.
He also said Hvar has changed in recent years, moving on from its "weary" hotels and only having one good restaurant.
Mr Martin added: "Hvar has cleaned up its act, and essentially recreated itself as a luxury beach destination, even though there are very few sandy beaches."
The New York Times recently reported that the island is popular with families all across Europe in the summer months, especially British people who are attracted by its quiet atmosphere and Venetian architecture.
