Travel guide says Croatia has 'unique cultural standards'

Croatia is unique and has its own regional specialities and cultural standards, it has been claimed

The country is tourist friendly but visitors are advised to learn Croatian customs to avoid causing offence, according to a Conde Nast travel guide.

It is important not say yes the first time something is offered, be it a treat, gift or even food, the guide states.

Demurrals at the dinner table used to go back and forth several times it is said, but Wanda Radetti, founder of Tasteful Croatian Journeys, told the publication: "people don't have as much time, which means you can say yes the second time".

Diners may be offered Rakija with their meals, a spiced grape brandy consumed with or after dessert which is said to be a point of pride in certain regions.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Zagreb has suggested the city host a beer festival to tempt tourists to Croatia.

It is proposed such a festival should be held in the city annually at the start of autumn.
