Travellers urged 'to remember to visit Zagreb'
21 July 2008
Visitors to Croatia should remember to plan a trip to Zagreb and not just stay on the coast, it is claimed.
Writing for New York-based News Ten Now, Valarie D'Elia suggests the landlocked capital should not be overlooked despite the "sparking coastline".
She says the country is affordable and that Zagreb is a cultural capital.
Easily accessible due to its compact size and funicular between the lower and upper towns, Ms D'Elia states St Mark's church in the upper town is a must-see and also recommends Mirogoj cemetery, one of the oldest in Europe, walking through the city's tree-lined paths and visiting the open air market, one of the few to remain in a European city.
The US news report follows an official publication unveiled by the BBC which shows Croatia has made "remarkable progress" in improving its investment climate and commends Zagreb for the ease of buying property in the city.
Doing Business in Southeast Europe 2008 stated the country and its capital are well-placed to attract foreign investment, istockanalyst.com reported.
