"Unforgettable" stroll in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik has a great deal to offer tourists, not least its "unforgettable" city walls, it has been suggested.

Taking a cruise along the Dalmatian coast, Eleanor Berman, author of New York Neighbourhoods, described her experiences of the city, the Denver Post reports.

The top of Dubrovnik's city walls "make for an unforgettable one-mile stroll", Ms Berman said, noting that they offer "views of the red-tiled roofs and spires of the city and the blue sea beyond".

Ms Berman's voyage also took in the sights of Split, which she described as a "change of pace", with a "bustling" harbour that is the "hub" of the Dalmatian coast.

The author said that her trip around the region would leave "wonderful memories" of the Dalmatian coasts' "hidden gems".

There are currently 1,185 Dalmatian islands, but new research from the University of Arizona suggested that tectonic movements in the region could potentially create new ones, the New Scientist reports.
