Unspoilt Istrian coast is 'new Tuscany'

Croatia's Istrian peninsula has been dubbed the "new Tuscany" by overseas property specialists.

Experts at Homes Overseas magazine pointed out that the eastern European country's property market continues to boom, although the "unspoilt" Adriatic coastline has apparently long been a holiday favourite with people from Italy, Germany, Austria and France.

"Located in the north-western corner of the country, close to the Italian city of Trieste and just two and a half hours from the UK by plane, the peninsula is extremely reminiscent of the Mediterranean of old," stated the publication.

It went on to outline some of the region's gastronomic delights, including wines, truffles, olive oil and sea food.

Property statistics indicate that the coastal towns of Umag and Novigrad are particularly common choices among foreign investors, with the Istrian peninsula surging in popularity because of its connections to the rest of Europe.

According to predictions from the World Travel and Tourism Council, the annual growth of travel and tourism in Croatia will average between 7.9 per cent and 5.5 per cent between now and 2016. ADNFCR-1197-ID-18478011-ADNFCR
