Vacation Croatia: 'Exceptional' sights to be seen
29 February 2008
Croatia travel offers an opportunity for people to experience the most "exceptional" eastern European sights, it has been claimed.
Travel experts at Forbes.com also noted that nipping across the Adriatic is more cost-effective than going to western Europe for a holiday.
According to the website, the recent strength of the euro has spurred more tourists to trek east "in search of architecturally, historically and culturally significant sights" that have previously been overlooked.
Plitvice Lakes National Park, located between capital city Zagreb and Zadar on the coast, was singled out for drawing increasing numbers of people interested in hiking, boating, camping and sightseeing.
Set in deep woodland, the park was granted Unesco World Heritage status in 1979 and contains 16 lakes which are connected by a series of waterfalls.
In another recent account of Croatia's holiday perks, Emma Pomfret lauded the country's "unspoilt" landscape and coast.
Writing on website Xpress4me, she noted that the same views are available now as hundreds of years ago, with "Franciscan monks, Romans and even Napoleon" enjoying the touristic jewels on offer.
