Zagreb club hosts windsurfing 'extreme night'

Some of Croatia's finest water-sports enthusiasts have got together in the country's capital to celebrate their craft.

Javno reports that Zagreb's Saloon club was the venue for the windsurfers' rendez-vous, organised by Wsurf.net - the largest windsurfing website in the country.

During the course of the event, the site's visitors were invited to vote for Croatia's best windsurfers of last year.

Split native Luka Mratovic - who will defend Croatia at the Beijing Olympic Games in the RS:X windsurfing class - scooped the largest number of votes, followed by Oliver Biljman, who set the Croatian record last year in Namibia.

The news provider revealed that the famed Saloon club is to commence a series of events dubbed 'Extreme Night', to home in on the promotion of extreme sports in Croatia.

It explained: "The programme will include wakeboarding, skate, bike and all other sports that are desperate for greater media attention.

"Perhaps Croatia will be closer to the rest of the world, where such sports have long since received great popularity and athletes are mega stars," Javno continued.

Zagreb also recently hosted a major charity ski race to raise money for a children's hospital in Gornja Bistra, near the capital.
