The solar power system is very easy to use and you will be shown how this works on arrival. Electric power for the villas is sourced from solar energy and stored in batteries. All lights, appliances and power outlets are powered by large capacity batteries, with the exception of the washing machine, dish washer, water heater and on days with cloud cover. These high wattage appliances cannot be sustained by power sourced from the batteries and are therefore directly connected to a generator.
Because of the “clean environment” design of the houses, guests are politely requested to
Adopt the following energy saving practices:
- Switch off lights when leaving a room.
- Turn off the TV when not in use.
- Disconnect phone, camera and computer chargers from wall sockets once they have been charged and not in use
- Use only low wattage appliances - these include fans, DVD player, computers, iPODs, cell phones and similar devices.
- DO NOT use high wattage appliances such as hair dryers, toasters, coffee machines, electric kettles, irons, and other appliances which have heating elements/coils. Use of such high wattage appliances will deplete, and can potentially damage, the batteries.
- Use of above listed appliances will exceed the power rating of the battery causing the electricity system to disable. Cost of the call out for an electrician to reactivate the system would be charged to guests.
The Villa does not include air conditioning, but guests find the fans, open air design and cool stone interior very comfortable.
