Almost ten million people travel to Croatia
16 November 2010Close to ten million people travelled to Croatia in the first nine months of the year, new figures show.
Numbers released by the Central Bureau of Statistics and highlighted by the Croatian Times after an initial report by Jutarnji List illustrate just how close the country came to breaking the landmark figure by the end of September.
In total, 9.8 million people from around the world arrived in Croatia for a holiday or other purpose, such as business, of which 8.6 million were from abroad.
Accommodation in Croatia is said to have enjoyed a 5.3 per cent boost in arrivals compared with results from 12 months earlier, the results show.
The news source goes on to speculate more people may be taking holidays in Croatia because of the economic problems suffered by some of its rivals, such as Greece.
Tara Hawkins of Croatian Villas, speaking at the recent World Travel Market in London and quoted by the same news provider, advised people there is a lot more to the country than just the ancient city of Dubrovnik.
