Annual film festival could be enjoyed by tourists in Zagreb

Visitors to Croatia this week could visit the seventh annual human rights film festival which kicked off on Monday (December 7th).

One venue in the Croatian capital, Zagreb - the Kino Europa - and the Art-kino Croatia in the historic northern port town of Rijeka are being used for the event which features 20 films on the topic of the worldwide struggle for social justice, reports the Croatian Times.

Igor Bezinovic's documentary The Encounter - depicting a clash between farmers and students - will open the festival, the publication reveals.

It will be followed by the feature-length film White Material by Claire Denis.

People on a Croatian holiday are in pole position to enjoy the event, but those jetting out to the Balkans later this week may also be able to take part with the festival not due to close until Sunday (December 13th).

Croatia has a rich film heritage with several film festivals taking place each year - one of which, the Vukovar Film Festival, took place in August and was opened by Hannes Stohr's Berlin Calling.
