Austrian 'nautical tourism' boost for Croatia
23 April 2009Austrians have provided a major boost to the Croatian tourism industry by flocking to the country via boat, it has been revealed.
Statistics published by the Croatian government show that over 2,240 Austrian visitors arrived in the former Yugoslav nation by sea between the start of 2009 and April 14th, according to the Austrian Times.
This represents a clear rise over the 1,757 maritime tourists who travelled to Croatia from the central European country in the same period during 2008.
The figures showed that Germans and Slovenians were the second and third largest demographic of tourists to arrive at the Adriatic coast by boat, demonstrating the lasting popularity of Croatia as a holiday destination in these nations.
Statistics published by authorities earlier in 2009 revealed that Croatia saw a huge leap in tourists visiting from Japan last year.
