Aviation ban gives Croatia tourists another chance to attend festival
20 April 2010Travellers to Croatia have been given another opportunity to attend a popular jazz festival, after it was cancelled because of Iceland's volcanic ash eruption.
Zagreb's Jazzarella was due to start today (April 20th) but several of the headline acts were unable to make it to the country in time, the Croatian Times reports.
These included Grammy winner DeeDee Bridgewater and Eliane Elias, both of whom were stuck at home when the flight ban was imposed.
"With sadness we have to say that DeeDee Bridgewater will not open our festival at the Lisinski Hall and that jazz lovers will not be able to attend the concert of Eliane Elias tomorrow," organiser Drazen Kokanovic tells the newspaper.
He adds bosses of the event even tried to organise a luxury bus to pick up the stars to no avail.
But the disappointment for those currently in the country could be good news for people planning a trip later in the year, when the festival is expected to be rescheduled.
Zagreb is the capital of Croatia with a population of about one million.
