Bernier hails Croatia 'as a partner' after Zagreb talks
21 May 2008Canadian minister of foreign affairs Maxime Bernier has concluded his trip to Croatia and hailed the country as a partner.
It is claimed continued stability and prosperity in Croatia will lead to increased bilateral trade between the two countries.
Mr Bernier also revealed after his meeting with opposite number Gordan Jandrokovic on the topic in Zagreb that the Canadian government will now look at ways to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
He also added his pleasure that Croatia has been invited to begin talks with Nato.
"Croatia's expected Nato membership and ongoing participation in the mission in Afghanistan are two issues that make Canada and Croatia partners," he added.
The Croatian-Canadian community now stands at over 100,000 people, while around 8,000 tourists are believed to have travelled to Croatia from Canada between January and November last year.
According to the Canadian foreign affairs office, the community has helped to develop a mutual understanding and closer business ties between the two countries.
