Bethlehem torch reaches Croatia
16 December 2008The Croatian Bethlehem torch has arrived in Zagreb, having been lit two weeks before Christmas.
A delegation of scouts brought the flame, which is symbol of peace, good will and love, into the city this weekend.
Zagreb's cathedral hosted a mass, run by the rector Josip Kuhtic, and attendees could then light candles from the flame and take them home.
The Bethlehem torch will be carried to other parts of the country and continent before Christmas.
Mihaela Rubesa, a spokeswoman of the Scout Association of Croatia, told Javno.com at last year's ceremony that the torch is intended to be a symbol of the arrival of Jesus and to mark Christmas as a holiday of peace.
Each year the flame is lit in Bethlehem and then flown to Austria, where it is the brought to the countries and parishes of Europe.
The torch also burns in parliament to spread peace, goodness and respect.
