Bilic signs new contract

Slaven Bilic has agreed to a new two-year extension as coach of the Croatian national football team, it has been reported.

The Split-born 39-year-old is believed to have agreed to a 1.2 million kuna (£131,000) per year deal, according to Reuters, which would tie him to the country to the start of the 2010 World Cup.

It comes as Bilic has been touted with the vacant manager's position at Manchester City in the English premier league.

His present deal was set to turn out in August, but Croatian bosses have moved to tie him down to an improved contract, which is set to be formalised on Friday.

Croatian national soccer association vice-president Ivan Brlekovic told Vecernji List, the Zagreb-based daily newspaper: "The coach's salary will have a fixed value but additional rewards will depend on his team's successes

Their Euro 2008 campaign begins on June 8th, when Croatia take on home nation Austria in Vienna.
