Book accommodation in Croatia for upcoming carnival
22 November 2010Fans of carnivals and street celebrations could be rushing to book accommodation in Croatia for the new year after learning of the details of Kastav Carnival.
Kastav, located in the Kvarner region on the northern part of the Dalmatian coast, hosts the annual festival that dates back to pre-Christian times.
It kicks off on St Anthony's Day (January 17th) and runs until Ash Wednesday, giving visitors plenty of time to travel to Croatia to be part of the fun.
The famous Antonjski horn is blown to mark the start of the carnival, while a straw effigy that will be burnt on the final day is unveiled.
A number of dances are held in the town, while there is also a competition to find the most innovative method of transport set up at the event.
Should visitors to Croatia not be able to make it to Kastav, they could be interested in travelling to Dubrovnik or Rijeka, both of which are also holding carnivals this winter.
