Budget flights to Croatia set to rise
20 May 2010The availability of cheap flights to Croatia is set to rise, with connections to the country from European cities due for further expansion this year.
According to figures produced by the Vecernji List and reported by the Croatian Times, links to major urban centres in the eurozone will exceed the 30 that were running last year.
Low-cost airline Wizz Air recently launched a new route from Luton to Dubrovnik , but it is Ryanair that is said to have had the biggest influence on the rise in the number of people opting to travel to Croatia.
Katica Pupic Bakrac, director of Zadar Airport, said passenger numbers are predicted to continue climbing.
"Last year we had 260,000 passengers and this year we will pass 300,000," she was quoted as saying.
And the fact that tourists are using a budget airline to go on their Croatia holiday does not seem to have any influence on expenditure, she said, with 97 per cent of guests spending 92 (£79) per day during their time in the country.
