Buying kunas online could secure far better exchange rate
14 October 2009Holidaymakers set for a trip to Croatia are advised to buy their kunas online rather than at the airport.
Travellers who leave the exchange of currency until the last minute pay an average of 14 per cent more for their money, according to research by FairFX.com.
Personal finance website Moneyhighstreet.com said: "With holidaymakers preparing for their half-term holidays, getting the best currency exchange deals is clearly important, particularly with the pound falling [against other currencies]."
The worst exchange rates are thought to be found at airports - particularly Luton and Birmingham - and train stations.
But organised tourists who plan their Croatian adventure in advance by buying currency online could get more kunas for their pound this winter.
Last month the Post Office highlighted the importance of securing foreign currency before travel.
It also recommended avoiding airports and overseas cash machines if hard-earned cash is not to be wasted.
