Cable-car journey to provide unique Croatian holiday experience

A cable-car lift stretching almost three kilometers should soon offer travellers to southern Croatia a link to the country's mountains.

The city of Makarska - ideally located for tourists in Split or on the islands of Brac and Hvar - will be connected to Biokovo Mountain thanks to the line, reports the Croatian Times.

Government bosses in Makarska decided yesterday (March 9th) to found a cable-car company - moving the project another step closer to reality.

Makarska mayor Marko Ozic Bebek has been assured the introduction of the cable-car will make the city more attractive to the significant number of tourists on the Dalmatian coast, the newspaper states.

Currently, the number of travellers to Croatia who decide to take in Makarska stands at about 50,000, but this could be much higher following the new transportation system's erection.

It may also offer people on Split and Dubrovnik holidays a unique way to venture into Croatia's popular mountain ranges.

Last month, the publication reported that one mountain range in Croatia - Ivancica - is set to become "the centre of mountain tourism" with the construction of a 15 sq km sports facility.
