Cheaper airlines could offer routes to Zagreb

Tourists thinking of visiting Zagreb have received a boost this week after the new director of the city's airport decided to cut the cost of services at the travel hub.

Tonci Peovic wants to persuade budget airlines to fly to the Croatian capital by lowering the costs they incur, reports the Croatian Times.

Zagreb is currently one of the most expensive airports in the Baltic to fly to and from.

But Mr Peovic has already talked to cheap flight carriers Easyjet and Ryanair about creating ten new flights from Zagreb each week - mainly serving Britain.

It means holidaymakers considering a trip to Zagreb could soon have a new cheap option in travelling to the historic city.

Mr Peovic said: "We should encourage discount airlines by sharing with them the risk of new flights."

The news comes just over a week after budget airline Jet2.com announced new routes from Manchester to Dubrovnik and Split which will start in April.
