Christmas lights 'tempt 40,000 people into travelling to Cazma'

Britons may wish to join the tens of thousands of people who have already made the effort to visit a home in Cazma, about 40 miles south-east of Zagreb, which is decorated with more than one million lights.

The Salaj family, who own the property, say they feel it is their duty to make Christmas more beautiful for everybody, according to the Croatian Times.

Already more than 40,000 visitors have made a trip to the house - and thousands more may wish to book a Croatian villa this winter and head to the Balkan country to share in the festivities.

Last year's decorations cost the family about £9,000, the newspaper states - although they did receive financial support from Croatia's tourism board, which realised just how appealing the lights could be to people considering a Zagreb holiday.

The Christmas fairytale will remain in place through into January.

Visitors to the Croatian capital can currently enjoy the famous Bethlehem Christmas Light of Peace, which is on display in the city centre.
