Cilic storms to victory in all-Croatian tennis final
09 February 2009Marin Cilic has stormed to victory following an all-Croatian final at the ATP Zagreb tennis tournament.
An enthralling match-up between second-seeded Cilic and fellow Croat Mario Ancic saw the former eventually come out on top-up, winning by 6-3, 6-4.
A frenetic encounter in the Croatian capital saw 20-year-old Cilic - who last year scooped the Chennai Open - race into a 5-1 lead against the seventh seed in the first set, before being pegged back to 2-2 at one point in the second.
Cilic told Agence France Presse following his win: "This was maybe my best match of the tournament. My game was very diversified."
His opponent Ancic commented that the beginning of the match was potentially "decisive" and he could only congratulate Cilic.
February has so far been bountiful for Croatian sport, with the national handball team earlier this month picking up a silver medal at the world championship in Zagreb.
