Croat strikers 'gearing up for long-awaited return'
04 August 2008Croatia have jumped ahead of footballing giants Brazil and Argentina in the latest rankings released this week by world football body FIFA.
Slaven Bilic's men now sit fifth in the table after moving up two places, in what is their best position since 1999.
The statistics mark a rapid rise for Croatia, who were down in 15th place just two months ago and as low as 125th back in 1994.
But, a series of impressive performances, and results at Euro 2008 has seen them travel up the listings.
The competition saw Croatia travel to Austria and Switzerland where they secured wins over Germany, Austria and Poland, before being knocked out by Turkey.
Bilic's next focus is the World Cup qualification campaign, which begins in September with Kazakhstan and England, who will travel to Croatia.
European champions Spain top the rankings, with Germany and Italy taking second and third spots respectively.
