Croatia and Slovenia 'to be linked by bridge'

People staying in a Croatian villa could easily combine their visit with a trip to Slovenia.

According to the Croatian Times, a bridge is set to be built over the River Sutla and will be financed by both countries.

The announcement was made at a regional meeting in Zagreb by the two nations' transport ministers.

It is expected the project will cost 2.9 million kunas (€403,000) and it is hoped it will help develop links between south-eastern Europe and other parts of the continent, creating an "Adriatic-Ionian connection", the newspaper said.

It added: "The ministers discussed the Adriatic-Ionian connection that would be in the interest of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania and how to promote the highway as a European corridor."

Individuals who prefer to stay in the comfort of a luxury villa when abroad could find accommodation to suit their needs in both Croatia and Slovenia, a country that is the only one in Europe to combine the Mediterranean, the Alps, the Karst and the Pannonian Plain, the official travel guide by the Slovenian Tourist Board says.
