Croatia could take advantage of the demise of the staycation
30 October 2009A higher than expected number of tourists could be heading for Croatia this winter, after new figures revealed Britons are abandoning staycations in favour of foreign trips.
Bookings in October were 41 per cent up on the same period in 2008, according to Hotelly.com, as travellers search for winter sun and respite from the recession.
Some tourists settled for a holiday at home this summer after forecasters predicted hot weather, but with that failing to materialise many were left longing for an overseas adventure.
And the revelation that UK temperatures could average a chilly 3.7 degrees over the winter months could be the final straw for many seeking a change of scenery.

It was reported this week that Croatia is expected to enjoy a record year for tourism after the number of visitors to the country in the first nine months of 2009 was revealed to total over nine million.
