Croatia 'gives visitor a horticultural treat'

A holiday in Croatia provides the visitor with a horticultural treat due to the abundance of fresh vegetables and fruit, according to a review in a newspaper.

The view from a tower in Rab looks out over the Adriatic Sea and the island of Pag can be seen in the distance behind the mountains of Croatia, the Independent says.

Underneath the tower, high walls surround a garden full of tomatoes, peppers, beans and cabbages and at one end are figs, apricots and pomegranate trees.

Reviewer Anna Pavord says there are lovely anchorages on the Kornatis islands which become more and more intriguing if you go walking on them.

"The best walk I had was on Iz when I had the perfect opportunity to peer in to people's back gardens," she adds.

Once covered in trees which have been cut down for sheep pastures, the islands are now famous for the cheese made from sheep milk.

In recent news, Croatia Airlines has signed an agreement to purchase four new planes to add to its medium haul fleet in order to expand its network.
