According to the Croatian Times, Zeljko Kerum believes the two countries already enjoy healthy tourism and cultural cooperation.
Mr Kerum said Croatia has "huge potential" and offers a number of projects investors could be interested in, the Croatian Times reports.
Such projects - which could include the development of new infrastructure, tourist attractions and key services - may benefit those planning a Croatia holiday in the future.
Among those are likely to be many Japanese travellers, with the newspaper revealing that 162,000 ventured from the Asian country to Croatia last year, compared with 8,000 in 1999.
