Croatia has it all for a happy hiking holiday

Lovers of the great outdoors - and particular those who enjoy walking - may find a holiday in Croatia is just right for them.

The Croatian National Tourist Board says the Adriatic country is one with a plethora of hiking trails and diverse scenery just waiting to be explored.

For example, some may consider anything from a stroll to a lengthy trek along the Dalmatian coast, taking in the picturesque sights on the way, as a perfect way to spend a few days.

More experienced hikers could fancy a mountainous route, perhaps attempting to reach the summit of one of Croatia's peaks.

The organisation suggests destinations such as Paklenica, Ucka, Dinara and Biokovo, home of a 350-metre cliff face that it describes as "Croatia's greatest attraction".

Lonely Planet's Tom Hall, writing for the Guardian, recently suggested a stay in Makarska could provide people with the ideal base from which to explore Croatia's top rural spots.
