Croatia heads UN Security Council in December
01 December 2008Croatia will head the United Nations (UN) Security Council for a month starting from December 1st and will have the ability propose debates during this time.
The country's ambassador to the UN, Neven Jurica, will present the December agenda on the second of the month, which will include topics relating to stability and peace.
A rotation principle is applied for the presidency of the council where the alphabetical order of the countries is followed.
On December 9th, Croatia will host a debate entitled Global Security and International Terrorism, which has been made particularly relevant by the recent attacks in Mumbai.
Croatia recently received a visit from the Slovak president who opened the first honorary consulate in the country.
Ivan Gasparovic travelled to the country on his first official visit in his presidential capacity.
While on the three-day trip the Slovak premier met with the Croatian president Stipe Mesic and parliamentary chairman Luke Bebic.
