Croatia holiday 'appeals to Slovaks'

An increasing number of Slovaks will head to Croatia for a holiday this summer, according to new research.

The survey, conducted by Focus and reported by the Croatian Times, shows some 11 per cent of people from the country taking a break in 2010 will head for spots such as Dubrovnik, Split and Trogir.

It also reveals two-thirds of Slovaks will travel away from home and the number heading to Croatia is up from eight per cent last year.

Overall, this means tens of thousands more visitors from Slovakia are expected, on top of the 300,000 that enjoyed Croatia in 2009.

Croatia's central location in Europe could make it ideal for tourists in many countries across the continent, while Britons seeking sun can take advantage of a number of direct routes to the Dalmatian coast with airlines such as British Airways and easyJet.

A number of people who visit could be doing so to attend music festivals, which were this week described as "vibrant" by Massive Attack's Robert '3D' Del Naja, who was talking to the BBC.
