Croatia holidays 'growing in popularity both in UK and worldwide'
23 April 2010Croatia is currently one of the UK's and, indeed, the world's most popular travel destinations, according to a tourism expert.
Meri Matesic, director at the Croatian National Tourist Office in London, says the arrival of Britons is one of the most important factors for tourism on the Adriatic coast.
Work carried out by Croatian travel chiefs may already be paying off, with the country recording consistent growth in visitor levels.
"We are doing a lot of activities to support and promote Croatia and to increase these numbers," she states.
One area that could contribute more than any other to the figures is Dubrovnik - now one of the premier European holiday spots.
The ancient walled city in the south of the country attracts visitors due to its unique blend of history, culture, unspoilt beaches and regular supply of ample sunshine.
Earlier this year, it was named by the Guardian as the continent's second-most romantic destination.
