Croatia island holiday 'has great restaurants'
15 June 2010The food available on Croatia island holidays can make it the trip of a lifetime, one travel expert has suggested.
Claire Wrathall, writer for the Financial Times, claimed she was able to take advantage of some of the best restaurants in Croatia thanks to recommendations from boat crew on her sea voyage around the Adriatic.
Fish is very popular in the country and Ms Wrathall sampled a wide variety of sealife during her short stay - including juha, a clear soup with scorpion fish, as well as kovac, a large John Dory fish.
"As we were eating, the taverna's owner speared an octopus with a trident from the quay. We ate it for lunch [the] next day, grilled with lemon and garlic, on the aft deck of our beautiful boat, anchored in yet another calm turquoise bay," the expert said.
The Croatian National Tourist Board advises sailing is one of the best ways to enjoy the Adriatic, with its 66 islands, 652 islets and 78 reefs, adding there are many different clubs available to tourists.
