Croatia 'popular with Scottish holidaymakers'

Croatia has been highlighted as one of the most popular countries people from Scotland choose to take their holiday, it has been reported.

The Herald Scotland was commenting on a recent survey by credit union Scotwest, which found 93 per cent of respondents plan to take a trip this year.

Almost 70 per cent are going abroad, with Croatia noted as one place many hope to visit.

Indeed, speaking to the newspaper, James Yerkess, manager at M&S Money, said: "Our figures show that there are only a handful of currencies where British tourists will get more for their money when exchanging cash compared to last summer.

"They include the increasingly popular tourist destinations of Bulgaria and Croatia."

Croatia is not only an affordable holiday hotspot because it is outside of the eurozone, but an increasingly easier one to get to.

New flights to Croatia from Manchester Airport have been earmarked by Jet2.com for the summer of 2011, including a route between the city and Dubrovnik.
