Croatia sees boost in cruise ship traffic
10 February 2009The number of cruise ships visiting Croatia has soared by close to a third over the last year.
As reported by the Hina news agency, data from Croatia's Central Bureau of Statistics showed that 30 per cent more ocean liners arrived in the country in 2008 compared to the year before.
The figures also revealed that the number of tourists brought to the country by cruise ships rocketed to more than 935,000 over the course of 12 months.
The majority of vessels arrived sailing under the flag of the Bahamas, although this was closely followed by passengers from just across the Adriatic Sea in Italy.
According to the statistics, the majority of passengers on each vessel stayed in Croatia for an average of two nights.
Official figures published earlier this week showed that the biggest increase in foreign travellers arriving in Croatian came from Japan, where tourist numbers swelled to more than 143,700.
