Croatia steps up bid to attract Spanish

Representatives from Zagreb and Dubrovnik are heading to Spain in a bid to attract visitors from the Mediterranean, it has been reported.

Between April 16th and 19th, the two cities will be promoting what Croatia has to offer at the Salon Internacional del Turismo de Catalunya 2009 in Barcelona, according to the Croatian Times.

Citing Business.hr, the newspaper's website highlighted that new direct flights from major Spanish cities to Dubrovnik and Zagreb were likely to prove popular.

At the event, both of the cities will also present traditional music and dances performed by an acclaimed ensemble, the Croatian Times noted.

The publication added the tourism officials in Croatia will also step up their promotional drive in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona with about 400 short videos on Spanish television.

Official statistics from the Croatian government show that more than 168,000 Spanish nationals visited the Balkan country during 2008.
