Croatian and Canadian ministers meet in Zagreb

Gordan Jandrokovic, the minister of foreign affairs in Croatia, is to meet with his opposite number from Canada, Maxime Bernier, for talks on regional development and security.

Trade and investment relations between the two countries and how they might be improved will also be under discussion when the Canadian minister of foreign affairs visits Zagreb this week.

As well as Mr Jandrokovic, Mr Bernier will also meet with president Stjepan Mesic, prime minister Ivo Sanader and Damir Polancec, vice prime minister and minister of economy, labour, and entrepreneurship among other officials.

Ahead of his visit to Croatia, Mr Bernier said the trip illustrates Canada's support of the country.

He added: "Croatia's invitation to join Nato and the country's ongoing participation in the mission in Afghanistan illustrate the cooperation between Canada and Croatia."

The number of Canadian tourists visiting Croatia has grown recently.

Around 8,000 extra tourists from the country visited between January and November last year, compared to the numbers which travelled in the same period in 2006.
