Croatian beaten in tennis match
22 October 2008Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic lost his match in the first round of the Lyon Grand Prix on Monday to France's Josselin Quanna.
Although he served 24 aces during the game, Ljubicic was unable to beat Quanna who won the match in two hours and 12 minutes.
The Frenchman beat Ljubicic 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 to the surprise of the home crowd, after losing in the first round of three tournaments this year.
He will now go on to face Ivo Karlovic of Croatia who is the sixth seed or Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador in the next round.
Andy Roddick, top seed in the competition, played against France's Nicolas Mahut and he hopes to win his fourth singles title this year.
The American served 18 aces in the match which he won 7-6 (5) 6-4, despite suffering a knee injury he picked up playing doubles.
Four of the tops seeds in the tournament are from France, including Richard Gasquet, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Giles Simon.
