Croatian city could benefit from Chinese investment
28 October 2009The mayor of Osijek, Kresimir Bubalo, has met with China's ambassador to Croatia to discuss investment in the city's new business areas.
And Wo Liangi told Mr Bubalo that the Asian superpower is prepared to continue working with Croatia, reports the Croatian Times.
Financial backing from China could see a range of new industries and developments take place in Osijek.
One such development could be the handing of transport systems - such as bus and train networks - to Chinese companies.
This may make it easier for visitors to Croatia to move around the country.
Indeed, a bus made by Chinese firm King Long is already in operation in Osijek city centre.
Mr Bubalo has promised China that it may take control of land and buildings for free if it is willing to invest in Croatia.
Wu Liangi said that Croatia was China's most important trading partner in the former Yugoslav area.
Earlier this month it was reported that Croatia's proposed entry to the European Union (EU) has moved a step forward after neighbouring Slovenia withdrew its objection.
Being part of the EU could dramatically increase investment in Croatia and make a beautiful country even more accessible and easy to navigate for tourists on the Adriatic coast.
