Croatian film takes top award
26 August 2008A Croatian film has won a major prize at the Sarajevo Festival.
Buick Rivera was chosen to receive the Council of Europe award for the best feature.
The international jury, with judges including Croatian actress Marija Skaricic and British director Hugh Hudson, selected the picture ahead of nine others.
Director Goran Rusinovic will now travel to Croatia with the Heart of Sarajevo award and 25,000 euros (£19,928).
The annual event, which began in 1995, is thought to attract around 100,000 visitors each year.
During the course of the festival, which ran between August 15th and 23rd, 174 films from around the world were screened.
Meanwhile, earlier in the summer it was announced the production of Croatian films is set to increase by 50 per cent, reports Variety.com.
A spokesperson for the newly established Croatian Audio Visual Centre stated its $15 million (£8.1 million) annual budget will support local producers, potentially doubling the budget of some films, the website adds.
