Croatian holiday could be combined with Macedonia visit
31 December 2009Tourists could soon use a Croatian holiday as an opportunity to see a little more of eastern Europe when flights between Rijeka and Skopje start operating.
The northern Croatian city and Macedonian capital will be linked by Airlift, which will offer a service on Mondays and Fridays throughout 2010, according to the Croatian Times.
It could provide visitors to the ancient port city of Rijeka with the perfect chance to visit not only Skopje but also Krk Island, Croatia, where Rijeka Airport is located.
Veseljko Bukvic, head of aviation support company Rijeka GAT, told the newspaper: "If there is increased interest, we will be ready to introduce extra flights each week."
Air officials in both countries are said to be satisfied there is "great interest" in a direct link between Croatia and Macedonia.
The news is the latest piece of good news for travellers in Croatia looking to move around the Balkan region after it was announced recently that a rail link between Zagreb and Belgrade would reopen.
