Croatian holidays are more popular than ever, says union
09 October 2009Holidays in Croatia are growing in popularity, new figures from the Camping Union reveal.
Tourist arrivals at camps in the country rose by 4.2 per cent in the first eight months of 2009 compared with the same period last year.
And overnight stays were also on the increase, growing by 2.4 per cent, reports the Croatian Times.
Josipa Bonifacic Cvelic, Croatian Camping Union executive board head, said: "The season concluded successfully. Around 97 per cent of our guests were foreigners."
The average visitor spends around £35 a day - which could explain Croatia's reputation as being good value for money.
According to the figures, Germans are the most frequent visitors to the Baltic country, followed by Slovenes and Dutch.
Last month The Mirror highlighted the island of Korluca, off the Dalmatian coast, as a new place worth visiting in Croatia.
Traveller Gill Murr told the newspaper the island was "like a miniature Dubrovnik".
