05 October 2009Sailing enthusiasts snapped up much of Croatia's accommodation recently for the annual Yacht Rally - an event that emphasised the country's growing reputation as a top beach holiday destination.
Croatia Yacht Rally is a cruise along the country's renowned Dalmatian coast which covers 150 miles of water in almost two weeks.
It was won this year by an Australian family, reports SailWorld.com.
The Lindholm's of Tasmania had won their place in the rally in a prize draw.
They joined families from across the world in competing along Croatia's sandy shoreline.
According to a report in the Croatian Times, around 267,000 Britons visited Croatia in 2008.
Visitor numbers are rising steadily as Croatia confirms itself as one of Europe's most desirable holiday locations.
Last month the Croatian prime minister Jadranka Kosor revealed there had been 49 million overnight stays in the country in the eight months to August.
This was 0.2 per cent more than in 2008, despite the poor economic climate.
