Croatian ski market given hope by expert
23 October 2009The ski slopes of Croatia will be as busy as ever if one industry expert is to be believed.
The mountainous regions of the Balkan country have become a popular destination for snow sport lovers in recent years.
But there have been fears the foreign holiday market in Europe could struggle in 2010 due to the credit crunch.
Tim Holmes, manager of the Metro Ski and Snowboard Show, said: "It [skiing] is not the first thing they will give up as a consequence of a slight economic misfortune. Most people will give up going away twice [instead]."
Mr Holmes believes the passion of skiers for their sport will mean they prioritise a trip to the slopes, possibly those in Croatia.
Earlier this month the independent holiday review site Croatia Traveller suggested Croatia is a good choice for a ski holiday.
It believes Mount Slijeme, near Zagreb, is perfectly located for such a trip.
