Croatian star nominated for film award
24 February 2009A popular Croatian film star has been nominated for a major industry award for his role in a powerful drama.
Rade Serbedzija is part of the shortlist of actors lined up for a prize at the upcoming 29th Annual Genie Awards in Canada.
Specifically, Serbedzija has been singled out for his performance in the Greek-Canadian production Fugitive Pieces, which tells the tale of a child who flees Poland during the Second World War.
During his ordeal, Serbedzija appears as a good-natured Greek archaeologist who helps in the boy's escape from the city.
This is not the first time his role in Fugitive Pieces has been recognised, as the Lika-born actor scooped the coveted Marco Aurelio Award at the Cinema Rome Film Festival in 2007.
Movie-lovers will no doubt be interested in visiting Croatia for the ongoing ZagrebDox documentary festival, which is taking place between now and March 1st at the city's student centre.
